Job Responsibilities:

Schedules patient for genetic counseling appointment. This includes:

  • Explain process of genetic counseling visit, address questions patient may have about appointment
  • Prior to genetic counseling visit, obtain genetic testing results on patient and/or their relative and other necessary medical records
  • Send email to patient with link for online family history form and directions for accessing telehealth visit or, if visit is in-person, provide directions to appropriate location.
  • Manage genetic counselors’ appointment calendars

Assist genetic counselor with the genetic testing process for patients, including:

  • Input of lab orders (demographic data) into appropriate lab portal
  • Aid in obtaining insurance pre-authorizations for genetic testing
  • Assists with tracking orders and results, communicates with the lab about status of results
  • Co-ordinate data collection
  • Input of data into risk assessment models (such as Tyrer-Cuzick)
  • Update pedigree in pedigree drawing software
  • Assists with sample collections (takes patient to lab if in-house blood draw, helps with coordination of skin punch biopsies)

Additional patient preparation and follow-up tasks as assigned

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs duties under supervision, within w ell established guidelines and practical knowledge gained from experience.

  • Greets patients or visitors, answers/screens/routes telephone calls, files, distributes mail and performs other general clerical duties.

  • May provide assistance with programs/software for Providers. May assemble and maintain patient charts.

  • Responsible for making copies, answering phones, making appointments, and maintaining records.

  • May be responsible for maintaining office inventor y including ordering supplies. Ensures that office equipment is in good working order and requests repairs or maintenance as needed.

  • Communicates with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

  • One year experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
