Criminal Investigator – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Role Summary: The Criminal Investigator is a law‑enforcement officer who works for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to protect the United States by investigating and disrupting complex criminal threats. The position requires no college degree and includes signing and retention bonuses up to $50,000. Duties Conduct and coordinate high‑level comprehensive investigations involving individuals, groups, or large organizations operating at the local, national, or international level. Use electronic surveillance, interviews, polygraph examination, and physical surveillance to obtain evidence in investigative cases. Make arrests, confront multiple suspects, and secure scenes in potentially dangerous and hazardous environments. Collect and analyze information in support of general criminal or administrative actions. Prepare sworn testimony for criminal and federal grand jury cases. Requirements & Conditions of Employment U.S. citizen, 21 years or older, with a valid driver’s license. Must successfully pass a background investigation, polygraph exam, pre‑employment medical exam, drug test, and a Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Must be able to work alone in remote areas, travel at own expense for polygraph, and serve a one‑year probationary period after appointment. Must sign a Mobility Agreement and serve a one‑year probationary period. Must maintain the ability to perform rigorous physical requirements and live within 50 miles of the duty station. Qualifications One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS‑07 level in areas such as narcotics, money laundering, financial crimes, human trafficking, fraud, or counterintelligence. Alternatively, a master’s degree or 2 academic years of graduate education leading to such a degree. Alternatively, a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the requirement. Skills & Competencies Problem Solving – Identify and analyze problems and propose solutions.
