Nonprofit Financial Consultant
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive financial professional to support the financial setup and ongoing oversight of a newly established charitable foundation. This role is ideal for an accounting consultant or independent financial professional with experience in nonprofit financial management, IRS compliance, and fundraising regulations. The initial phase will require establishing financial systems and ensuring legal compliance, transitioning to ongoing maintenance once operational.
Responsibilities
Establish and configure checking and savings accounts for the foundation.
Develop financial tracking systems and internal controls.
Ensure compliance with federal and state fundraising laws and charitable giving regulations.
Assist in drafting financial policies and procedures.
Coordinate with legal counsel or advisors to ensure full regulatory compliance.
Oversee monthly bank reconciliations and prepare financial statements.
Prepare and file the foundation’s annual IRS Form 990 or equivalent.
Monitor the financial health and sustainability of the foundation.
Ensure timely and compliant disbursement of assistance funds during the active assistance period.
Provide financial reports to the foundation’s board or leadership team.
Advise on budgeting and forecasting for fundraising and assistance programs.
Essential Skills
Experience in nonprofit accounting or financial administration.
Familiarity with IRS nonprofit filing requirements and fundraising regulations.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Work Environment
This role is a consulting opportunity with an initial heavy workload during the first 3–4 months, transitioning to reduced hours and responsibilities once systems are in place. The schedule is flexible with remote work options available. Initially, the consultant will work 40 hours a week, then move to 20 hours a week for up to 24 months. Additional opportunities may arise once the time commitment decreases.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
