This role is responsible for recruiting and managing Clark County School District (CCSD) students in the Job Discovery Program (JDP), ensuring they receive the personalized support and guidance needed to succeed. The Student Advocate helps foster a safe, inclusive environment where students are empowered to explore their strengths and achieve their goals. The Student Advocate collaborates with families, CCSD, Desert Regional Center (DRC), Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), and other partners to coordinate services and build a strong foundation for each student’s future — making a meaningful impact at every stage of their development. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Utilize appropriate methods for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated. Reinforce and positively engage in Opportunity Village's organizational culture, supporting the choice and creativity of participants and team members. Ensure that all students and their families or guardians receive a welcome folder and an orientation to Opportunity Village & the Job Discovery Program (JDP), so they clearly understand the purpose of the program and how it relates to their needs and desires. Partner with students and interdisciplinary team members to provide targeted support and life skills training that empowers students with developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence and long-term success. Review all students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to identify required services and supports, and ensure proper documentation is in place to support CCSD billing and service delivery. Provide coaching on documentation practices (e.g., IEP goal tracking, ID Notes) and support team members in understanding individualized interventions and student support strategies. Oversee documentation and reporting to ensure accuracy, clarity, and timely communication with partners. Track and maintain monthly attendance records in a shared Google Sheet for CCSD access. Review and provide feedback on weekly progress reports for JDP I and II before CCSD submission. Record and distribute JDP II team meeting notes to CCSD, BVR, Job Developers, and internal stakeholders. Maintain appropriate compliance records for all students as required by state, federal, CCSD, community site MOUs, and Opportunity Village scholarship or grant regulations. Support the incident reporting process by collecting statements and ensuring thorough and accurate documentation in ID Notes, in alignment with CCSD and program protocols. Ensure quality service delivery at all vocational training sites, emphasizing individual choice, participation, independence, productivity, respect, dignity, and freedom from harm. Assist the Employment Training Manager in monitoring program quality and training site performance through established systems and monthly observation reports. Ensure a safe and compliant work environment by upholding health and safety regulations, promoting accident prevention training, and fostering safety awareness across all program operations. Assist the Employment Training Manager in preparing and monitoring the annual operating budget for the Job Discovery Program. Ensure that team members operate within the approved budget and in a cost-effective manner, recommending adjustments as needed based on revenue changes. Attend all relevant team meetings, IEPs, and CCSD conferences. Represent Opportunity Village in professional associations, CCSD, and provider groups. Evaluate all students for potential competitive employment or referral to appropriate Opportunity Village services. Ensure referrals to DRC and BVR are completed. Step in as needed to support team members and site operations: Provide coverage during staff absences (e.g., PTO, call‑outs). Assist with student behavior issues requiring additional support. Support site‑specific compliance efforts, such as maintaining Food Handler Cards and coordinating with Sunrise Children Foundation and Dignity Health. Accompany students and serve as a chaperone during events held outside normal JDP hours (e.g., evening transition nights, STAR Fair, agency appointments); coordinate with designated transportation providers as needed. Some travel to various locations in the Las Vegas area. Must be able to meet all requirements of OV vehicle policies and travel: Between worksite locations Within the community Adhere to Opportunity Village's established policies and procedures. May be assigned other duties as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not directly supervise OV team members but will guide and mentor participants within the program. Skills Required Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, team members, and supervisors (verbal and written). Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand others' reactions and behaviors. Ability to interpret instructions and deal with multiple variables. Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from participants, contractors, community partners, and other team members. Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations. Ability to effectively present information to fellow team members and participants. Ability to accept and apply performance‑based feedback. Ability to conduct tasks and successfully perform under critical deadlines. Education And Experience Required: Associate’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Education, or related field, with at least one (1) year’s work experience supporting people with special needs, or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and three (3) years work experience supporting people with special needs. Required: Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurance requirements. Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Required: Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 30 days of employment. Required: Current CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment. Preferred: Specialized training in Vocational Rehabilitation or Special Education. Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
