Job Overview UX Researcher, Nexus at Google Location options: San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Sunnyvale. Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. 4 years of experience in an applied research setting (product or academic). Experience with research methods such as usability studies, contextual inquiries, 1:1 interviews, unmoderated studies. Experience with developer tools, business analysis tools, or HCI coding. Preferred qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in HCI, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology or related field. Experience conducting research with highly technical users (software engineers, data scientists, researchers). Experience with software development lifecycle, tools, or data infrastructure. Experience leading multi‑team research programs and influencing senior leadership. Ability to navigate ambiguity and define research agendas in emerging technical domains. About the role UXR focuses on understanding user needs across product development stages, collaborating with engineering, product management, and design. Responsibilities Gain knowledge of developer tools products, technologies, user motivations, competition, and productivity blockers. Work with product managers, engineering, and other teams to create a positive experience for users. Conduct independent research on multiple aspects of how users experience developer tools, collect and analyze behavior through qualitative methods, and incorporate technical and business requirements into research. Prioritize research opportunities in a fast‑paced environment with cross‑vertical research teams. Distill research findings through written reports and verbal presentations.
