Job Description

As one of the most comprehensive and acclaimed institutions for the study of music, the Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music (JSoM) plays a key role in educating performers, scholars, and music educators who influence music performance and education around the globe. The more than 1,600 students who study at the Jacobs School of Music benefit from the intensity and focus of a conservatory combined with the broad academic offerings of a major university. The essence of a great music school is its faculty, and the more than 180 full-time faculty members in residence at the IU JSoM include performers, scholars, and teachers of international renown. In addition, many top musicians and scholars come to the school each year to give master classes and guest lectures or to serve as visiting artistic directors, conductors, and faculty. The breadth and number of performance opportunities are unparalleled in college music study, with the school offering more than 1,100 performances a year, including fully staged operas and ballets. The school's facilities, including five buildings located in the heart of the IU Bloomington campus, comprise of outstanding recital halls, more than 170 practice rooms, choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, and more than 100 offices and studios. The grandest facility is the Musical Arts Center, which features technical capabilities that are among the best in the nation. Job Summary Department‑Specific Responsibilities Designs and implements data‑informed engagement and annual giving strategies that deepen relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the JSoM, aligning with the School's philanthropic priorities and IU's 2030 strategic framework. Develops and executes programs that intentionally move engaged constituents through the donor pipeline, supporting sustained growth in annual, leadership annual, major, and planned giving. Partners with Development colleagues to identify, qualify, and cultivate prospective donors through annual giving, events, volunteer opportunities, and affinity‑based networks, ensuring engagement activity drives future philanthropic potential. Leads the planning, development, and implementation of alumni programs that complement and advance Jacobs' engagement and fundraising goals. Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure engagement effectiveness, such as participation rates, event‑to‑donor conversion, and volunteer pipeline growth, and integrate findings into advancement dashboards. Partners with the IU Foundation and university advancement systems to standardize engagement data tracking, reporting, and performance measurement for transparency and accountability. Strengthens Jacobs' visibility and service to communities across Indiana and beyond by coordinating strategic partnerships that build advocacy and philanthropic readiness. Manages budgets, timelines, and resources effectively to ensure strategic alignment with fundraising and campaign objectives, emphasizing efficiency and measurable outcomes. Serves as a senior member of the Jacobs Development leadership team, contributing to overall advancement strategy, campaign planning, and donor pipeline development. Supervises the Event Coordinator and Alumni Career Advisor, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration. Acts as a liaison to IU Foundation and campus partners to coordinate engagement best practices, leverage shared data insights, and amplify success stories across the university advancement enterprise. General Responsibilities Leads the planning, development and implementation of alumni programs and major ceremonies/events that complement and advance the goals of university alumni and development offices, academic units and student life. Identifies and cultivates relationships with both alumni and students to promote engagement as volunteers on committees and in programs and as dues‑paying members of the alumni association. Develops and manages a portfolio of alumni, volunteers, donors and prospects. Collaborates with other units on fundraising efforts and events. Collaborates with internal department partners and volunteer leaders to develop plans and implement programs (professional development, celebrations, fundraising) that connect students and alumni and increase engagement and participation of the local service community and the worldwide alumni community and supporters. Establishes and coordinates opportunities that retain students and alumni in a lifelong relationship connected to the university. Oversees the design and production of alumni‑related marketing and communication, including online, social media and web content. Manages unit operations and budgets; may manage a team of staff. EDUCATION

Required – Bachelor's degree in a related field Preferred – Master’s degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required – 5 years in alumni relations, development, event planning, public affairs, marketing, and/or volunteer management

The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
